CBN disputes Aisha Buhari's claim that outdated notes can be extended for 70 days.
The news was posted on Aisha's page on Tuesday. It said that the old N500 and N1000 notes will still be accepted as money until May 1, 2023, which is 70 days from now.
The CBN said that the one on Aisha's page was "fake news" and sent out another release instead.
The CBN said, "For the avoidance of doubt, and in line with Mr. President's broadcast on February 16, 2023, the CBN has been told to ONLY reissue and recirculate the old N200 banknotes. This is expected to circulate as legal tender for 60 days, until April 10, 2023. The public should therefore ignore any message or information not officially released by the Central Bank of Nigeria on this subject. Media workers are asked to PLEASE check any information with the right sources before putting it out there.
