Court of Appeal rejected the request to grant bail to Abba Kyari

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has again rejected the bail request of the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari.

Kyari is asking the court to overturn the first decision of a high court in Abuja which refused to grant his request for bail.

Judge Stephen Adah, who read the decision of the three-judge team, concluded that considering the charges against Abba Kyari before the court, caution must be exercised and the need to grant him bail.

He said Judge Emeka Nwite of the Abuja High Court, who initially rejected Kyari's bail application, used his right to refuse to grant bail.

The NDLEA, which fights against drug trafficking in Nigeria, is prosecuting Kyari who is the former leader of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT).

Kyari and other IRT members - ACP Sunday J. Ubua, ASP Bawa James, Inspector Simon Agirgba and Inspector John Nuhu were charged with conspiracy to deal in cocaine.
