The Indigenous People of Biafra have denounced the ongoing attacks on INEC facilities in some South-Easterly states, particularly in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State and Orsuihiteukwa in the Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State.
The pro-Biafran organization urged citizens to avoid the rumored order being circulated by the Simon Ekpa faction and further denied directing any sit-at-home movements in the South-East during the election period.
Emma Powerful, the IPOB's media and publicity secretary, alleged in a statement on Monday that individuals who attacked INEC facilities were mostly supported and paid by dishonest politicians who wanted to demonize IPOB and the Eastern Security Network.
The group insisted that they had no interest in the upcoming election in Nigeria and added that their only demand was a date for a referendum to determine their future in terms of politics, society, and the economy.
"IPOB condemns the recent attacks on INEC offices and personnel in Ihiala LGA, Anambra State," the statement read. The primary source of funding and sponsorship for the criminal gangs operating in Ihiala LGA and Orsuihiteukwa in Orsu LGA, Imo State, is dishonest politicians who want to demonize IPOB and ESN members. We insist that we are uninterested in the Nigerian election's selection process. As a result, we held back from commenting on the jamboree. Our only demand is a referendum date so that we can choose whether we want to live in an unified Nigeria or an independent Biafra nation for our political, social, and economic future. "Anyone linking IPOB to the malicious sit-at-home order must be very ignorant. Neither did ESN nor IPOB operatives ask any group to attack INEC facilities for any reason, nor did we issue any sit-at-home order during the election period. Through its media and publicity secretary, Emma Powerful, or through an official IPOB memo signed by Mazi Chika Edoziem, the head of the Indigenous People of Biafra's directorate of state, IPOB has its own means of disseminating information. Any public information on IPOB that is not from the outlets specified above should be ignored.
"We implore our people to disregard any false information that associates IPOB with the criminal activity of infiltrators and collaborators. Volunteers from IPOB and ESN will make Biafraland exceedingly unwelcoming to criminal gangs hired to terrorize our people and extort our nonviolent movement. We will unleash our venom on those who attempt to blackmail IPOB, so Nigerian security agencies who have been aiding, abetting, and supporting these criminals hired and funded by politicians must stay away.
"The task ahead is enormous, and our enemies are relentlessly utilizing every available tool to destroy IPOB through this election, but we won't allow them to continue in their obnoxious plan to destroy IPOB and ESN operatives and stop our freedom march.
Because they won't help our cause in any way, IPOB does not support the attacks on INEC facilities during this time. We are simply working to bring about Biafra's independence peacefully, not violently.
