Court Arrests Auditor In Yobe For 19 Million Naira Corruption
The High Court of Yobe State has sentenced the Financial Auditor of the State Local Government Office to five years in a correctional facility.
The judge of the court, Justice Muhammad Lawu Lawan, gave the verdict on Monday, after finding Alhaji Idris Yahaya guilty of 19 million naira corruption.
The EFCC zonal office in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, prosecuted the suspect earlier.
It is suspected that Alhaji Idris received the money with the intention of buying some Toyota Corolla 2015 cars, to be used in the ministry, but he diverted them.
He was arraigned on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, where he was sentenced after pleading guilty.
Delivering the verdict, Justice Muhammad said that the plaintiffs presented to the court convincing evidence that confirmed the allegations against the man.
He then sentenced him to five years in prison with the option of paying a fine.
Also, the judge ordered the criminal to pay 10 million and 100 thousand Naira to the Yobe Government through the EFCC, and spend two more years in prison.
