PSquare was conceived by their late parents, Late Pa Moses Okoye and Late Mrs Josephine Okoye.
In Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria, both twins received Catholic education while growing up. They went to the nearby Catholic St. Mulumba secondary school. The two decided on St Mulumba Secondary School because it had a music and drama club.
They both used the music and drama club to their full advantage to hone their singing and dancing abilities while imitating songs by Michael Jackson, Bobby Brown, and MC Hammer.
Later, Peter and Paul started an acappella group called "MMMPP" with 5 members (M Clef, Michael, Melvin, Peter, and Paul). When MMMPP dropped M Clef, a quartet called "MMPP" was later created, and the two of them collaborated to form the band "Smooth Criminals" in 1997.
In the city of Jos, where they frequently performed at events like school functions and other gatherings, they became well-known due to their distinctive singing style and dynamic dancing.
