A small Catholic school in Jos, Nigeria called St. Murumba College is where P-story Square first began. Peter and Paul, who are identical twins, joined the music and drama club at their school, where they started miming, singing, and dancing to MC Hammer, Bobby Brown, and Michael Jackson's songs.

Later, they created the Cappella group "MMMPP" (M Clef a.k.a Itemoh, Michael, Melvin, Peter, and Paul). They started break dancing and created the group "Smooth Criminals" in 1997, taking cues from their musical hero Michael Jackson. The group "MMMPP," later renamed "MMPP," was stripped of M Clef. They quickly became well-known performers in the city of Jos, where they appeared at events like school functions and other gatherings thanks to their artistic ability and precise dance routine. Peter and Paul went back to music school later in 1999 to hone their keyboard, drum, bass, and rhythm guitar techniques. The soundtracks for several movies, including Tobi, Mama Sunday, Moment of Bitterness, and Evas River, were composed by them. Later in 1999, they submitted an application to study business administration at the University of Abuja. They are managed by Bayo Odusami, also known as Howie T, the CEO of Adrot Nigeria Limited and a seasoned concert promoter. P-Square won the "Grab Da Mic" competition in 2001, and as a result, Benson & Hedges sponsored their debut album, Last Nite, which was released on the Timbuk2 record label. Three months after the release of their debut album, P-Square received a nomination for "Most Promising African Group" at the Kora Awards. Eventually, they were named the "Best R&B Group" in the 2003 Amen Awards. P Square's second album, Get Squared, was released in 2005 by their own label, Square Records. While still being managed by Howie T of Adroit Nigeria Limited, TJoe Enterprises promoted this album across the country. For four weeks straight, the second album's video occupied the top spot on the MTV Base chart. All over South Africa, their fan base is expanding, with a concentration of devoted followers in Cape Town. The following international artists have shared the stage with the group: Akon, Ginuwine, Sean Paul, and Busola Kenshiro.

P Square's members are currently in Lagos. They released Game Over, their best-selling album to date, toward the end of 2007. 8 million copies have been sold worldwide. Danger, P-fourth Square's studio album, was released in 2009. Collaborations with 2face Idibia, J Martins, and Frenzy are included on the album. With cutting synths and a frog bass baseline reminiscent of an Eminem song, the first single, "Danger," is a hip-hop song. The presence of clowns and the actors' stumbling movements in front of the camera, which are reminiscent of Eminem's humorous videos, serve to support this.

The band has encountered a lot of controversy due to their practice of using popular hits and western songs as samples in their music. They have talked about it a lot in interviews and in the lyrics to their songs. They initially carried on with their performance, but in the middle of it, they angrily stormed off stage while yelling, "We're leaving; they don't want 2face to come on stage." After the show's organizers intervened, they allegedly left the venue right away but later returned with 2face for a performance. They later apologized to the audience.
