According to Catriona Laing, the British ambassador to Nigeria, women in the nation are not allowed to participate in its growth.
In a special interview with the BBC, Catriona Laing made this statement in addition to expressing concern over the decline in the number of women elected to office or appointed to political roles in the Nigerian government.
She made a point of pointing out that fewer women were elected to the Federal Assembly in the recently held election than in the election of 2019.
She claimed that this has caused Nigeria's political system to regress.
Mrs. Laing, a five-year resident of Nigeria, is the nation's first female British ambassador.
She expressed disappointment that Nigeria ranked 123 out of 126 nations in the globe in terms of gender equality.
But, many Nigerian women, according to Catriona, are displaying their bravery in other areas of the world despite the fact that they were allegedly barred from taking part in politics at home.
Although making up half of the population, "Nigerian women have varied talents, but the bad part is that they don't get the opportunity to contribute to Nigeria," remarked Catriona.
The assistant secretary general of the United Nations, the head of the World Trade Organization (WTO), and many more bright Nigerian women, she claimed, had made the world proud. She claimed to have seen these ladies both inside and outside of Nigeria.
