144 Nigerians have been repatriated from the Republic of Niger
The National Emergency Relief Agency, NEMA, said it has received an additional group of 144 Nigerians, who are stuck in the Republic of Niger.
The coordinator of the agency in Kano state, Nuraddeen Abdullahi, disclosed this while receiving the people at Malam Aminu Kano Airport.
The migrants arrived home around 2:30 in the afternoon.
He said the people were repatriated under a program of the International Organization for Migration from Niamey, the capital of Niger.
The people included 106 men, 16 women, and 22 children.
Nuraddeen Abdullahi said the people who were brought back home came from many parts of Nigeria - including Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Abia, Sokoto, and Edo.
According to him, the people will be trained in different professions, and they will be given capital so that they can be self-reliant.
The coordinator advised Nigerians to stop putting their lives in danger by traveling for a better life in other countries, saying there is no better place than their motherland, Nigeria.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that between February and March, 300 Nigerians were brought back home after being stranded in Niger while on the way to cross the Sahara.
