A 7 storey building under construction has collapsed in Lagos
A seven-storey building that was under construction collapsed in the neighborhood of Banana Island in Ikoyi, Lagos State.
The incident happened around 3:00 on Wednesday.
Punch reported that the collapse happened when some of the construction workers had already left work.
The spokesperson of the State Fire Service, Amodu Shakiri, confirmed the incident.
He said, "We were called around 3:00 pm. We are now trying to make sure that no one was in the building when it collapsed."
Lagos State is notorious for the number of demolitions of tall buildings in the State. Even in November 2021, more than 50 people, including the owner of a house, died after it collapsed while it was being built.
The state government has already made a law that will allow it to confiscate the land license of any building that has been demolished as a way to make money.
