Attackers killed 50 people in Benue state
Media reports say that at least 51 dead bodies of villagers have been found in the Umogidi area of Otukpo in Benue state after a group of gunmen attacked the village.
It is also reported that the people of the village have not been seen so far.
The leader of the local youth, Adakole Inalegu Daniel told the BBC that local residents, including youth groups, are continuing to search the forest to find more bodies.
According to reports, some armed gunmen invaded the local community on Wednesday, where they entered the village market and started shooting at each other.
Residents of the area said that many of those who entered the forest were shot with guns, and some of them were beheaded.
Although security forces were deployed to the area, this did not stop these attacks.
Villagers who are mostly farmers in Benue state have often clashed with herdsmen.
The farmers are accusing the herdsmen of using their animals to destroy their crops, while the herdsmen are accusing the farmers of attacking their animals.
