Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Urges Allies to Address Political Crisis and Supreme Court Cases
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif calls a meeting of allies to talk about the political crisis and cases in the Supreme Court.
Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called an important meeting of parties that work together to talk about the country's political crisis and legal problems, such as Supreme Court cases. The meeting will take place at the PM's home in Model Town Lahore, where the leaders of the allied parties will come up with a plan to deal with the problems caused by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the ongoing legal proceedings.
The Supreme Court is currently hearing a case about why Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly elections were delayed. This has caused a lot of trouble, and the PTI is challenging the Election Commission of Pakistan's (ECP) decision to put off elections in the two provinces. A five-member bench was set up to hear the plea, but it was broken up twice because two judges didn't want to hear the case. This happened because the Supreme Court ordered that all proceedings be put on hold under Article 184. (3).
Even though two judges have stepped down, the PTI's case is now being heard by a three-person bench led by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial and including Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Munib Akhtar. The court also turned down the government's request to form a full court on Friday, making the crisis worse.
Sources say that the government alliance is not willing to talk to the PTI or Imran Khan because they are not seen as trustworthy people. Instead, they are thinking about not going to the Supreme Court hearings with a three-member bench. This is because judges have left the bench, reducing the number of judges from nine to three.
Quaid Nawaz Sharif, who is the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), will also be there. He will join the meeting from London.
