A British court will sentence Ekweremadu and his wife today


Ike Ekweremadu, the former deputy president of the Nigerian senate, his wife Beatrice Ekweremadu, and a physician will be sentenced at the Old Bailey Criminal Court in Great Britain today.


The senator and his wife were found guilty of attempting to traffic in human beings in March.

A 50-year-old physician named Dr. Obinna Obeta was also found guilty of conspiring with the politician to have the man's kidney removed; they will now be jailed for the first time in accordance with rules against modern slavery.

The young man in Lagos who wants to use his money runs a modest business.

Last year, he was sent to the UK to serve at London's Royal Free Hospital.

He said that he was offered a job in the UK in exchange for the assistance he would provide, but after speaking with UK doctors, he claimed that he recognized that he was being brought in.
