Early Years
Anuel AA, whose real name is Emmanuel Gazmey Santiago, was born in Carolina, Puerto Rico, on November 26, 1992. His father was black and his mother was white. His father, José, was the vice president of Sony Music Entertainment's Puerto Rican A&R business. Gazmey Santiago was so moved by this that he decided to go into the music business himself. He started making music when he was 14 years old.
Career Beginnings
Gazmey Santiago started getting more fans after he put his songs online in 2010. Rick Ross, a rapper, heard some of his tracks and signed him to the Latin branch of Maybach Music Group. "Real Hasta la Muerte," his first mixtape under the name Anuel AA, came out in early 2016.
Business Breakthrough
In 2016, when Anuel AA was in prison for illegally having a gun, the Latin trap genre was becoming more and more famous. He answered this trend by making his first album while he was in jail. That record, whose title was the same as the name of his first mixtape, came out the day Anuel AA got out of jail in the summer of 2018. The album did well in both sales and reviews, reaching number 42 on the Billboard 200 and number one on the Top Latin Albums list.
More Of His Albums
"Emmanuel," Anuel AA's second record, came out in 2020. It was helped by the hit song "China," which was made with Daddy Yankee, Karol G, Ozuna, and J Balvin. On the 22-track double album, Bad Bunny, Travis Barker, Lil Wayne, Farruko, and other artists also make performances. "Emmanuel" was another big hit for Anuel AA. It reached number eight on the Billboard 200 and number one on the Top Latin Albums list. After that, the rapper said he was leaving the music business, but he came back in early 2021 to release "Los Dioses," an album he made with Ozuna. Later in the year, Anuel AA released his third solo album, "Las Leyendas Nunca Mueren." It went to number one on the Top Latin Albums chart, just like his first two albums. Late in 2022, Anuel AA released his fourth album.
Imprisonment
In the spring of 2016, Anuel AA and three of his friends were caught with three pistols, nine magazines, and 152 bullets. One of the weapons was stolen. He then agreed to a deal that put him in federal jail for 30 months. After getting into a fight with another prisoner, Anuel AA was put in solitary confinement for 90 days. At first, he served his term in Puerto Rico. In early 2018, he was moved to a state prison in Miami. Anuel AA made all of his first albums while he was in jail.
Personal Life
Anuel AA used to be married to Astrid Cuevas. He had a son named Pablo with her. He also has a daughter named Gianella from his connection with Colombian model Melissa Vallecilla and a daughter named Cattleya from his marriage to Dominican rapper Yailin La Más Viral, which ended in divorce in 2023. Anuel AA dated Colombian singer-songwriter Karol G for two years. This was one of his other relationships.
