A double-decker tourist boat capsized in the southern state of Kerala, killing at least 22 passengers.

According to national officials, the event took place on Sunday night in Tanur, a seaside town in Kerala's Malappuram district, and rescue efforts are still going on.

The ship that partially sank in the night was being searched for survivors both inside and outside by a large number of personnel. Some people stopped the boat with a rope, while others crawled through the water.

About 30 passengers were in the plane when it took off, the officer stated.
