Economic pressure leads parents to marry off children who are young, according to UNICEF

UNICEF has issued a warning that the violence that the world has experienced, such as the onset of the Ebola virus, has hampered efforts to combat child marriage in the world.

According to a recent UNICEF research, child weddings among those under the age of 18 have declined over the previous ten years, but the coronavirus pandemic, violence, societal pressure, and the effects of climate change have prompted parents to wed their daughters before they reach adulthood.

According to UNICEF estimates, 12 million girls are married off annually, which they describe as a violation of human rights and a restriction on the children's ability to enjoy childhood. The problem is particularly bad in African nations south of the Sahara desert.
