EFCC has arrested the former Minister of Electricity for embezzling 22 billion naira
Engineer Saleh Mamman, a former minister of energy in Nigeria, has been detained by the anti-corruption EFCC on suspicion of stealing 22 billion nairas meant to increase the country's overall electricity supply.
According to reports throughout the nation, including the Daily Trust, the former minister was seized by EFCC agents on Wednesday. He is presently there responding to inquiries about how these enormous quantities of money were spent.
The 22 billion nairas allotted for the Zungeru and Mambilla power project is said to have been misappropriated by Mamman, according to sources, who is also suspected of sharing the funds with other senior officials in his ministry.
According to sources, EFCC agents have located several assets the minister owns in Nigeria and abroad as well as some cash that is made up of both naira and dollars.
In order to oversee the building of the Mambilla power station, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Mamman as a minister from Taraba State in 2021. However, he fired him in September 2019 due to his lack of satisfaction with his work.
