First Baby Born Through Insemination at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital in Zaria
Doctors at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital in Shika, Zaria have set the record for the first baby cockroach that was produced by retrieving and combining male and female sperm in North West Nigeria.
The head of the team of doctors who carried out the operation, Professor Adebiyi Adesiyun, said the baby was born on the 16th of May this year at about 10.53 in the morning.
According to him, the baby weighing 3 kilograms came out with a perfect body like any baby that is born healthy.
The project, which is the first of its kind to be carried out in the entire North West region of Nigeria, has been a great success.
Professor Adesiyun added that Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital has been doing this for almost 12 years, but the problem of lack of funds has been causing problems.
He said that even this time, if it wasn't for the collaboration they did and the great support given to them by the head of the hospital, Professor Hamid Ndigas, then this success might not have been achieved.
The doctor confirmed that the hospital has qualified doctors and equipment to carry out the operation, but the cost of the operation made it impossible to carry it out long ago.
The professor explained that this is the only way that will clear the tears for the people, especially those who do not have children so that they can have it easily.
He said that now there are many people who are waiting, but the lack of a specialized laboratory is delaying the work.
He advised those traveling abroad or private hospitals to use this opportunity to go to the Ahmadu Bello University Hospital to administer this new technology.
