Early life and the start of a career
Thomas Luther "Luke" Bryan was born on July 17, 1976, in Leesburg, Georgia. Tommy, his father, grew peanuts. He planned to move to Nashville, Tennessee when he was nineteen. But his older brother Chris was killed in a car crash. This was a shock. After the terrible thing that happened to his family, Bryan moved to Statesboro, Georgia, where he went to school at Georgia Southern University. He got his bachelor's degree in business administration in 1999. Two years later, he moved to Nashville.
Bryan joined a publishing house when he got to Nashville. When he first started working in the music business, he wrote songs for singers like Travis Tritt and Billy Currington. While Bryan was playing in a club, an A&R man from Capitol Records Nashville offered him a deal.
Career in Music
Luke Bryan first song, "All My Friends Say," which he wrote with producer Jeff Stevens, reached No. 5 on the Hot Country Songs chart. Bryan's first record, "I'll Stay Me," came out in August 2007. Bryan wrote or helped write 11 of the 12 songs on the album. The songs "We Rode in Trucks" and "Country Man" from the album got to number 33 and number 10, respectively. "Doin' My Thing," Bryan's second record, came out in October of 2009. Bryan wrote the hits "Rain Is a Good Thing" and "Someone Else Calling You Baby" with songwriters Dallas Davidson and Jeff Stevens. Both songs were No. 1 on the charts for country music.
In February 2011, the song "Country Girl (Shake It for Me)" came out. Bryan and Davidson wrote it together. It reached No. 4 on the country music charts and No. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 lists. His third album, "Tailgates & Tanlines," came out in August of that year, and "Country Girl" was the first song from it. The album was No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and No. 1 on the Top Country Albums chart.
Bryan had also put out a number of EPs before 2013. These included "Spring Break with All My Friends" in 2009, "Spring Break 2...Hangover Edition" in 2010, "Spring Break 3...It's a Shore Thing" in 2011, and "Spring Break 4...Suntan City" in 2012. Bryan announced in January 2013 that he would put out an album called "Spring Break...Here to Party." It would include songs from his past "Spring Break" EPs as well as two new songs. When it came out in March 2013, the record went straight to the top of the Billboard 200 chart. It was his first album to top the chart for all types of albums.
In August 2013, he put out his fourth studio record, called "Crash My Party." It gave rise to a number of hit singles, such as "Crash My Party," "That's My Kind of Night," and "Drink a Beer." "Spring Break 6...Like We Ain't Ever" was his sixth EP from Spring Break. It came out in March 2014. On the same day, he played at Spinnaker Beach Club in Panama City Beach, Florida, for the sixth year in a row during spring break. "Spring Break...Checkin' Out," his last Spring Break EP, came out in March 2015. His fifth studio record, "Kill the Lights," came out in May 2015 and went straight to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. All six singles from "Kill the Lights" hit No. 1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. This made Bryan the first artist in the history of the chart to have six number-one singles from one album. Bryan's sixth record "What Makes You Country" came out in December 2017.
Bryan has won a number of awards, including two Academy of Country Music Awards, nine American Country Awards, and one CMT Music Award.
Other business and project ideas
Bryan and fellow country star Emily West were both on an episode of "Celebrity Apprentice" in 2010. Their job was to give an up-and-coming country star a new look. Bryan was chosen to be on Bill Goldberg's team, and West joined Cyndi Lauper's team. The judges were not impressed by Bryan's act, and so his team lost. In addition to being on the show together, Bryan and West gave a month's worth of sales of their songs, "Rain Is a Good Thing" by Bryan and "Blue Sky" by West, to Cyndi Lauper's charity, The Stonewall Community Foundation. All told, they got $25,000. Bryan also became a judge on "American Idol" from Seasons 16 to 18.
Bryan is a co-owner of Buck Commander, a business that sells hunting gear for deer. It is a sister company to Duck Commander. Buck Commander and the Outdoor Channel worked together to make a TV show for hunters. Bryan is on the show with Grant Taylor, Jordan Summit, Mike Miller, Willie Robertson, Ryan Langerhans, Adam LaRoche, Tombo Martin, and Jason Aldean, among others.
Personal Life
The wedding took place on December 8, 2006. Together, they have two kids. As was already said, tragedy hit Bryan's family when he was 19. That's when his bigger brother died in a car crash. In 2007, they had a second disaster when his older sister Kelly died at home of unknown causes. This happened just a few days after they had gotten a group of friends together to go see him perform at the Grand Ole Opry. Ben, Kelly's husband, died in 2014. As if that wasn't bad enough. So, Bryan and his wife started taking care of their nephew and their two nieces.
