 Salva Kiir is attempting to mediate disputes between the parties in his neighboring Sudan.

Following the East African Union team's complaint against them, that they refused to respect the decision to extend the ceasefire twice, the government of South Sudan has claimed that the conflicting parties in Sudan have agreed to a ceasefire agreement for 7 days.

The head of the Sudanese army, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and his deputy, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who has since rejoined the enemy, have agreed to a ceasefire for seven days, from the fourth of this month of May until the eleventh of the month, according to a statement released by the South Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

Failure to Respect the Agreement

Since the fighting began in the nation on April 15 of last year, a ceasefire has been reached more than once. This time is not the first.  

Diplomatic efforts to settle the crisis in Sudan, which was the third-largest nation in Africa, have increased in response to the United Nations' warning that the country is on the verge of disintegrating. 

According to the UN, the war has already claimed the lives of hundreds of people, while others have already been injured and more than 430 thousand people have fled their homes.
