The Arab League has granted amnesty to Syria
The Syrian government is back as a member of the Arab League after being kicked out more than 10 years ago.
In November 2011, the Arab League kicked Syria out because its security forces broke up a peaceful protest that went violent and killed more than 500,000 people, displaced millions, and destroyed the country's infrastructure.
Even though peace has been reached in some important parts of Syria, the government still doesn't control a lot of the country, especially in the north, and no political steps have been taken to end the 12-year war.
Now, the Arab countries' foreign ministers say that members of the Syrian government have already started going to the group's meetings starting this Sunday.
The ministers made it clear that they were going to start working to end the war in Syria. They agreed to form a committee that will keep meeting with the government of that country.
Since the start of the war in his country, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has been treated unfairly on the political front. However, diplomatic ties between the two sides have slowly been getting better in the lead-up to the general meeting of the organization on May 19 in Saudi Arabia.
