UEFA will set the minimum wage for European football players.
Aleksander Ceferin, who is the president of UEFA, the governing body of football in Europe, said that he thinks a minimum wage system can be put in place in European football. He said that all of the clubs have agreed on the issue.
Ceferin said that he talked to the European Federation about the problem and that they talked about putting in such a measure. He said that big clubs, small clubs, government-run football clubs, and big business groups all agreed.
Last March, Gianni Infantino, who is the head of FIFA, talked about the idea of a minimum wage system for football.
"We're not talking about who owns the teams; we're talking about how good the competition is," said the UEFA president. "If the same five teams always win, there's no point."
He went on to say, "But it must be a common agreement that includes every competition and UEFA. If we do it and the other clubs don't, that doesn't make sense."
He said that after the year 2024, they will have a new law that allows about 70% of the revenue to be used to pay the salaries and connections of the players. However, if the revenue hits $5 billion, 70% is a lot.
