Women's World Cup: Fifa threatened some European countries
Gianni Infantino, the president of Fifa, has threatened to bar five European nations from viewing the Women's World Cup.
Infantino requested that the nations only make such a statement if the television broadcasting firms raise the cost of the initial offer they made.
The president expressed his dissatisfaction with the amount of money offered to promote the games in Germany, France, Great Britain, Spain, and Italy.
The main European nations intend to bring about a decrease in the competition, he continued, adding that players and women's football have been handed down in front of their eyes.
Beginning on July 20, 2023, Australia and New Zealand will host the Women's World Cup.
According to Infantino, European businesses who will sponsor the event have offered to spend $1 million to $10 million in advertising fees as opposed to $100 million to $200 million for sponsorship of the men's World Cup.
He claimed that this offer is unfair and that if they insist on paying this amount, Fifa won't allow the countries to broadcast the competition.
Infantino said that all proceeds from ticket sales for this year's competition will go towards the global advancement of women's football.
Infantino claimed that compared to what it paid for the competition in 2019 in France, Fifa has tripled the prize money for winning the cup, to 152 million US dollars.
Fifa also hopes that, as agreed upon at the meeting held in March, the payout for the women's World Cup will be equal to that paid to the men's World Cup from now until 2026/27.
Fifa estimates that 1.12 billion people watched the 2019 Women's World Cup in France.
