31 people died as a result of a gas explosion in China
At least 31 people died and 7 others were hurt Wednesday night in northwest China when a gas boiler used to cook blew up in a restaurant.
The explosion happened around 8 o'clock Chinese time in a busy neighborhood in Yinchuan, the capital of Ningxia Hui, where most of the people are Muslim, according to a local news source.
The event happened at the same time as the Dragon Boat Festival, which was held to remember the death of Qu Yuan, a famous writer and minister of the country who lived between 340 and 278 years before Jesus.
The Xinhua News Agency said this happened during a meat competition and emphasized how many people died and how many were badly hurt.
CCTV video shows how firefighters are trying to put out the fire while smoke is coming from one leg of the restaurant building.
The President of China, Xi Jinping, has asked that steps be taken to treat those who were hurt and to keep a closer eye on big industries so that something like this doesn't happen again.
