Blinken is on a visit to repair US-China relations in Beijing
In an effort to reduce tensions, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken began a two-day visit to China on Sunday. This is the longest visit by a top US official in the past five years. - their distinction from one another.
As the two greatest economies in the world hold divergent opinions on matters pertaining to trade, technology, and regional security, the two parties stated their desire to advance mutual understanding in order to prevent confrontation.
Officials, though, are dubious about the prospect of a material improvement in the bilateral relationship during Blinken's visit to Beijing.
Put off the initial visit
Blinken had originally intended to travel in February, but he abruptly canceled the trip after the United States said that a balloon it claimed to be a Chinese spy was flying in American airspace.
After a lengthy and emotional encounter in November on the fringes of the G20 summit in Bali, when they agreed to Biden's visit, US President Joe Biden said he hopes to meet with President Xi Jinping again.
Xi and Biden re-convene
The next G20 summit will take place in New Delhi in September, and the two presidents are expected to attend. Xi has also been invited to San Francisco in November when the United States will host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation.
At the Diaoyutai Ancient Garden Inn, Blinken will have dinner and a meeting with top Chinese officials.
