Chukkol became the acting chairman of the EFCC

After the suspension of AbdurRashid Bawa from his position as head of the anti-corruption organization EFCC on Wednesday by Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, Abdulkarim Chukkol has taken over the role of acting head of the agency.

Yesterday, the Director of Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of Nigeria, Willie Bassey, issued a statement that asked Bawa to give over his responsibilities to the Director of Operations of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Chukkol began working for the EFCC in 2003 and quickly ascended through the ranks, eventually becoming the chief investigative officer and director of operations there.

Earlier in his career, the police officer served as the head of the EFCC zonal office in the town of Fatakwal. Subsequently, he was promoted to the position of head of the agency's headquarters in Abuja.

Some Nigerian press reports said that Muhammad Umar Abba would continue to lead the EFFC until a new permanent president was appointed, but this information was then corrected to state that Abdulkarim Chukkol would be taking over the presidency. This was before the appointment of Chukkol was made official.
