Coastal cities are at risk of flooding in Africa - report

Experts say that the sea level will rise by at least 2 meters by 2100 and by at least half a meter by 2050. This will have a big effect on coastal towns, especially in West Africa.

Most of Africa's big towns near the water, like Lagos in Nigeria and Abidjan in Cote d'Ivoire, as well as Accra in Ghana, will be the first to feel the effects of sea level rise, which will cause flooding and air pollution.

Experts said in their study that the problem of rising sea levels will be at its worst in 2030, when the continent will lose 4 billion dollars every year. By 2100, this loss could double to 10 billion dollars.

Warming and climate change are causing floods, mudslides, and typhoons in some African countries, especially those near the coast.

The report says that the fact that these coastal towns are responsible for 56% of Africa's GDP, according to the World Bank report 2020, shows that steps need to be taken to protect them from the evil that comes their way.

Almost all places less than 300 kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean are affected by this problem. These cities include Accra, Keta, and Takoradi in Ghana, and Saint-Louis, Dakar, and Ziguinchor in Senegal.
