France has denied the rumors of arresting its soldiers on the border between Chad and Sudan
Some Chadian troops are said to have been arrested at the border between Chad and Sudan because they entered the area without permission. The French Ministry of Defense says this is just a misunderstanding between the two countries.
Some videos that have gone viral on social media show Chadian troops attacking French soldiers who are crawling while other Chadian soldiers follow them with guns and one of them answers the phone. The only thing that shows they are being told to attack the army is that they have a gun.
Under the film, different people say what they think about the French soldiers. Some call them mine thieves, while others call them spies.
Since the film came out on the 8th of this month, people in Chad have been calling for the French army to be arrested and charged.
But the French Ministry of Defense explained the video in a way that made sense from both sides. It said that French and Chadian forces are working together to provide security in the Abeche region of eastern Chad, which is 48 kilometers from where the Chadian Army detained them when they were walking around to see how the rain was getting worse.
According to the French Ministry of Defense, the troops working at the checkpoint don't know about the joint operation of the French Army in Abeche. The soldiers have already been let go and allowed to continue working after both sides came to an agreement.
