Looking for ways to provide Nigerians with relief from the withdrawal of fuel subsidies
The National Labor Union (NLC) has suspended its plan to go on strike starting tomorrow Wednesday over the increase in fuel prices as a result of the withdrawal of subsidies.
It may be recalled that the federal government filed a lawsuit to prevent the strike and the court ordered the NLC not to go on strike on Monday.
Stopping the strike is one of the seven resolutions reached on Monday after a meeting between the trade unions and the federal government.
While reading the resolution of the meeting last night, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila said that both parties have agreed to form a joint committee to review the minimum wage.
The committee will also analyze the plan to transform the gas system and analyze the challenges of providing quality education and the work of improving infrastructure.
The President of the National Union of Trade Unions, NLC Jeo Ajero and TUC Festus Osifo approved the resolution reached in the meeting concluded between the unions and the government.
However, they are not specific about the need to reform the increase in fuel prices.
The NLC chairman called for efforts and focus to achieve an alternative to petroleum.
On his part, the leader of the TUC, Festus Osifo urged the government to keep the agreement.
In addition to the task of creating a plan to complete the management of the country's oil refineries, both parties agreed to meet again on the 19th of this month to further reach a decision on the implementation of the plan.
After the suspension of the NLC strike, it is not certain whether the National Union of Legal Workers JUSUN will join the union in stopping the action it took earlier yesterday on the issue of fuel subsidy removal.
