Mali revoked Dicko's diplomatic passport
Mahmoud Dicko, a well-known Islamic expert, was one of the leaders who opposed Mali's new constitution. He doesn't agree with the idea that government and religion should be kept separate.
The military leaders of Mali have not said why they took Imam Mahmoud Dicko's foreign passport away. Dicko is a well-known religious teacher and politician. But sources say that this happened at the airport in Bamako when he came back from a meeting in the neighboring country of Mauritania. And the passport was taken away four days after a vote on the country's new law, which the imam doesn't agree with.
Mahmoud Dicko was in charge of the protest that led to Ibrahim Boubacar Keta's government being overthrown. But before he went back to being a dictator, he started to help Mali's military government. In recent months, the Islamic preacher has been one of the people leading the fight against the new constitution. He doesn't agree with the idea that religion and government should be kept separate.
