The price of a liter of petrol would rise nationwide, according to the National Petroleum Corporation of Nigeria (NNPC).
The new president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, announced the decision to stop the government from providing subsidies to oil in his first speech after taking the oath of office on the 29th of this month, May. According to a statement that he broadcast on his Twitter page, the NNPC company said that it made the increase to match the current situation in the country's energy affairs.
The NNPC corporation also expressed regret to Nigerians in the announcement for any difficulty the hike may have caused in their day-to-day lives.
Now, a liter of gasoline in Nigeria will cost more than 500 Naira, with some gas stations in Abuja already increasing their prices to 537 Naira.
