Otu orders DSS to give Emefiele access to his lawyer and family
A High Court in Abuja has told Yusuf Bichi, who is in charge of the DSS, to let Godwin Emefiele, who is the acting governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), see his lawyers and his family.
The Maitama district court, which was led by Justice Hamza Muazu, made it clear that Emefiele did not have the right to use his constitutional rights.
Emefiele's lawyer, J.B. Daudu, SAN, asked the court for the order after the DSS didn't reply to letters he sent asking for access to his client on June 14, 2023.
Emefiele's lawyer said that they don't know if DSS has turned down their requests and kept them from meeting with Emefiele in the past.
But Awo said he was sure that the security agency would follow the court's order and let his family and the lawyers on the list see him.
In this case, the lawyers for the Department of Social Services (DSS) and the Federal Attorney General's Office (Federal Attorney General's Office) asked for more time to send in their answers.
The court agreed, and the case will now be heard again on Tuesday, June 19, 2023.
