The court impeached the Inspector General of the Nigerian Police, Usman Baba, and said that his tenure as IG was prohibited by law
The Federal High Court in Akwa Ibom removed the Inspector General of the Nigerian Police from continuing to act as the head of the Nigerian Police.
Even though she said that father's term was completed a long time ago, the reason for this is why his continuation as the head of the Nigerian police is prohibited.
Delivering the verdict, Judge Riman said that Buhari's extension of time to Inspector General Baba was contrary to the provisions of the 2020 Police Act.
“It is pertinent to note that the Inspector-General of Police is a public servant and by virtue of being an employee of the Nigerian Police Force, section 214 (1) of the Constitution and the applicable Rules of Procedure of the Federal government number 299 (PSR) which provides for the mandatory retirement of any public servant who has reached 60 or 35 years of government service, they are all convinced of it.
Therefore, even though it is an advantage that the President used to extend his term, it is against the law to continue to leave him in this position of Inspector General of Police after his term is complete.
