The UN has extended the embargo on arms trade with South Sudan

The UN Security Council has decided to continue the country's sanctions against select citizens as well as the arms embargo on South Sudan.

After separating from Sudan in 2011, South Sudan became an independent nation. However, two years later, the nation descended into conflict, which resulted in the deaths of millions of people.

According to statistics, between 2013 and 2018, the civil war between President Salva Kiir's allies and those backing his deputy Riek Machar resulted in an estimated 400,000 deaths and millions of displaced people.
