Tinubu Has Not Opened Nigeria's Borders - Customs
The National Anti-Corruption Commission (Customs) says that President Bola Tinubu has not reopened all of the country's borders that were closed by President Muhammadu Buhari's government.
In 2019, people will remember that Buhari shut down all the country's borders to stop illegal goods like rice, guns, and other things from coming in.
After two years, some of the borders were opened again by the Buhari government, but others stayed closed despite the efforts of Nigerians.
A few days ago, some people started sharing an old video on social media. In it, Bamidele Makinde, who was in charge of the NCS Ogun branch, was seen raising the barrier at the border between Idiroko and Benin Republic.
It was said that Tinubu had reopened the country's borders because of the film.
In response, the NCS Controller said that the Tinubu government has not told all of the country's borders to open back up.
He said that the Buhari government reopened the Idiroko border with some tribes in 2022. He said that the rest of the borders will stay closed until the federal government tells them to open.
Bamidele said that Ijofin, Imeko, Ijoun, and Ohunbe, as well as other approved borders in Ogun state, are locked.
"Only Idiroko is open right now; the others are still locked up," he said.
Makinde told reporters in Abeokuta that Customs officers are public servants whose job it is to carry out the government's plans.
"We've got a new government now. The new government will have its own set of rules and laws. There shouldn't be any confusion. We just work for the government and put plans into action. "Whatever Abuja tells us to do, we will do," he said.
"The border of Idiroko is always open, but if we arrest someone else, we will take his property," he said.
