 Tinubu Inaugurates National Economic Council, Says Governors Have No Excuse for Failure


Nigeria's President, Bola Tinubu, has told Nigeria's Governors that they need to work hard to give their people good government.


He asked for this on Thursday, when the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, was sworn in as the head of the National Economic Council (NEC).

The Council was made up of the 36 Governors of Nigeria and other government leaders.


Tinubu said, "Governors don't even have a reason to give the country for failing, despite their appeals, requests to be elected, and even the role they played in the 2023 election campaign to get elected."


He said that Nigerians need to get the economy going again as soon as possible. To do this, he said, they should work together with the government.

The President asked the Parliament to work with him and his team to get the country's economy back on track quickly.


The first meeting of the Council took place at the Presidential Palace in Villa, Abuja, after the members of the Council were sworn in.


LEADERSHIP said that the NEC's job is to give the president advice about the country's economy and the steps that need to be taken to plan the ways and programs for the economic management of the states and the central government.


The 36 governors of Nigeria, the head of the Central Bank (CBN), and other government leaders from other countries are on the committee.

Governors of the states of Kwara (Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq), Osun (Ademola Adeleke), Kogi (Yahaya Bello), Ekiti (Biodun Oyebanji), Nasarawa (Abdullahi Sule), Akwa Ibom (Umo Eno), and Enugu State (Peter Mbah) were among the first people to arrive at the National Economic Council NEC meeting.


Some of the other governors are Bassey Otu of Cross River, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, Nasir Idris of Kebbi, Umar Dikko Radda of Katsina, and Hycinth Alia of Benue.


At the meeting were also the governors and most important person 


Others include Ebonyi, Francis Nwifuru; Kaduna, Uba Sani; Edo State, Godwin Obaseki; Abia, Alex Otti; Bayelsa, Douye Diri; Kano, Abba Yusuf; Bauchi, Bala Mohammed; Oyo, Seyi Makinde; and the Acting Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Ayedatiwa, and the Deputy Governor of Borno State, Umar Kadafur.


Secretary to the Federal Government, George Akume; Chief of Staff of the Presidential Palace, Femi Gbajabiamila; Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Petroleum Resources Company (NNPCL), Mele Kyari; Acting Accountant-General of the Federation, Oluwatoyin Madein; Acting Governor of CBN, Folashodun Shonubi; The Chief Secretaries of the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, the Federal City Council (FCTA), and the Presidential Palace
