Wagner rebels recapture Russian defense headquarters - Sources

The warriors of the Wagner Group have taken over a Russian military security headquarters in the city of Voronezh, according to sources who spoke to the BBC's Russian Department.

The organisation claims to control the town, which is near to Rostov-on-Don.

The city government has not yet responded to the claim.

Aleksandr Gusev, the governor of Voronezh, cautioned that several untrue claims about what is occurring are being circulated.

Additionally, he claimed that the Russian military was engaging in "defensive" operations in Voronezh as part of President Putin's declared campaign against terrorism.

The location of Voronezh is shown on the map below. Even yet, Wagner plans to travel to Moscow to confront the Russian military authorities.
