What made Buhari delay the removal of fuel subsidy - Garba Shehu

The removal of gasoline subsidies and the modification of the nation's foreign exchange system have been put on hold, according to the former president of Nigeria's spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu, "until the appropriate time."

In a statement he released on Monday, Shehu declared the elimination of gasoline subsidies, which caused the price of a litre of fuel to increase from 184 naira to more than 500 naira, four weeks after President Bola Tinubu succeeded Buhari on May 29.

Shehu further emphasised that if there is to be "political truth," the Buhari administration will not be able to carry out measures that could jolt the nation "due to the APC party's need to win elections" in its final days.

President Bola Tinubu should carry on where he left off now that the election is done. After these significant economic actions, "We have full confidence that the new government will make the country and its entire population have a better future," stated Shehu.

The former president's spokesman went on to say that while he did not eliminate gasoline subsidies, he did do away with many other subsidies, including those for power, fertiliser, the Hajj, trips to Jerusalem, jet fuel, diesel, and the support of the calendar, among others.
