Abdullahi Adamu has resigned as the National Chairman of the APC
According to sources, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the National Chairman of the APC, turned in his letter of resignation on Sunday evening.
Before President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's return from the African Union (AU) summit in Kenya, a source verified that Adamu, who was elected the party's national chairman at the national convention held in March 2022, had filed his letter of resignation to the presidential palace in Abuja.
One of the sources claimed that at around 4 o'clock on Sunday evening, Adamu, the former governor of Nasarawa state, delivered his letter of resignation to Femi Gbajabiamila, the chief of staff of the presidential palace.
The national chairman of the APC quit after learning that some individuals close to the president were preparing to disparage him at the assembly party scheduled for Wednesday, according to a source on Adamu's side who also corroborated this.
The source, however, refuted a rumour that President Tinubu had requested Adamu to retire before of the party's Wednesday national executive council meeting. The National Committee and NEC meetings will be held on July 10 and 11, respectively, to address issues relating to the National Executive Committee of the Party (NEC) crisis.
The meetings that were originally set for this Wednesday were, however, cancelled.
A party member claimed that Adamun quit after learning of the plans of two important individuals close to the country's President to form a political alliance with him and discredit him.
"They started signing petitions to impeach him at the future Party gatherings, which is why he quit. He resigned to avoid being humiliated, the party member claimed.
After being reached, Adamu stated that he would reserve any further comments until President Tinubu returned from the AU summit.
The president is not present, so I won't comment about this subject," stated Adamu.
So long as it is remembered, Adamu declared Ahmad Lawan, the former president of the Senate, as the party's nominee for president just before the APC party's presidential primaries.
At the moment, Adamu's remark sparked pandemonium within the party, and the governors from the North of the party covered his name to express their support for Tinubu.
The governors' position compelled the party to offer the presidential ticket to anyone, and Tinubu went on to win the election.
According to reports, Adamu is still criticising the names that appear on the lists for the leadership of the two houses of Congress, including those of Speaker of the House Tajudeen Abbas and President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio.
After the event, President Tinubu invited Adamu to the White House, where during the discussion the issues were settled.
