A Christian charity said an American nurse and her son were kidnapped in Haiti.

The group said they were abducted on Thursday after the United States advised its citizens to leave Haiti immediately due to security concerns in the country.

The head of El Roi Haiti, said that the nurse is the wife of their director who is of Haitian origin.

The US Department of the Interior said it is aware of the situation and will work with the Haitian authorities to free the woman.

Half of the capital Porto Prince is controlled by terrorist groups, and kidnapping for ransom is common in the country.
