Some members of the House of Representatives have spoken out against what they say is unfair treatment in how seats and posts are given out.

On Tuesday, July 4, 2023, about 100 lawmakers publicly spoke out against what they saw as a trend. They said that the ugly trend could slow down the work of the legislature.

Rep. Olawale Raji (APC-Lagos), who was in charge of the House Committee on Welfare, had to decide where each member would sit.

Most of the lawmakers who were protesting were there for the first time. They said that the seats that were given to them on the third floor of one of the temporary rooms were uncomfortable.

Also, some of the politicians didn't like how the offices were given to them.

On the Welfare Committee's list, 240 members were given places on the second floor, while a few, including some first-timers, were given seats on the ground floor.

In response to this, the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, asked for peace and said that the main chamber, which is being renovated at the moment, would be finished before the House came back from its break.

Khadijat Bukar-Ibrahim, who is in charge of the Ad hoc Committee on Media, said that there was a small commotion during the plenary gathering.

She said that giving offices to members is the job of the Welfare Committee, which had already done the work and given each member an office.

"As for the seats, you know that we are in a temporary sitting area, so there aren't enough seats downstairs for everyone. So, some of them have to sleep upstairs. So there was a small commotion about not being able to hear the mic from downstairs," she said.

"Since then, Mr. Speaker had told members to sit anywhere downstairs, and everyone was happy," Mr. Bukar-Ibrahim said.
