Gunmen shoot and kill people coming back from church in Taraba.
Gunmen attacked the Jenuwa Nyifiye village in the Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State. They killed three people and hurt many more.
Reports say that the accident happened on Sunday, July 2, 2023, as the victims and other people were coming home from church.
On Tuesday, Abdullahi Usman, a spokesman for the state's police command, said that the story was true and that the gunmen were likely members of a Fulani militia.
He said that the shooters attacked the neighborhood as people were coming back from church and shot at anyone they saw.

He said that during the attack, three people died and many more were hurt. He said that soldiers and cops were able to fight off the attackers in the end.
During the attack, it was learned that several homes were set on fire.
Godson Danlami, who is the traditional leader of the village, said that the attack was "very pathetic." After that, he told the state government that it should work with security agencies to stop crime in the neighborhood and the council as a whole.
In the last few years, strikes by people thought to be bandits and kidnappers have put Southern Taraba and Takum in the news. There have also been a lot of deadly community fights in the area.
Residents said that there are a number of crime groups in the area.
