Fire has affected people in Algeria

Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the president of Algeria, extended a message of regret to the families of those who perished in the forest fire between Sunday night and Monday morning.

According to a statement from the Algerian Interior Ministry, there were at least 97 fires in 16 districts, though it noted that the fire was particularly destructive in Béjaa, Bouira, and Jijel, where fatalities occurred.

The government added that despite the fire being fanned by strong winds, 1,500 households were successfully transported. This Monday, the fire was reported in Tabarka, a region on the country's border with Tunisia, where it damaged numerous agricultural fields in addition to the locals' homes.

More than 10,000 firefighters are currently working to contain the fire, which has now been burning for two days, but there have been complaints that they lack equipment due to the country's order for firefighting planes from Russia being delayed.

The majority of the victims were citizens and military, and President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has already offered his condolences to their families.
