Hajj: Why 14 Nigerian Pilgrims Died

14 Nigerian pilgrims have died in Saudi Arabia since the beginning of the 2023 Hajj, according to the National Pilgrims Commission (NAHCON).

Usman Galadima, the leader of NAHCON's medical staff, made this statement during a meeting with Arafat and other participants on Sunday in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

Seven pilgrims perished prior to Arafat, six more perished during the five days of Mashair (the primary time of Hajj during the Mina era), and one more pilgrim perished after Arafat, according to Galadima.

He claimed that some pilgrims perished in the stampede, while others passed away from illness.

"Six deaths were reported in Mashair, four in Arafat, and the remaining two in Mina.

"Since the beginning, seven pilgrims have died before Arafat, and I've now learned that we've lost another one. The death toll now stands at 14.

According to him, "the death toll is about the same as it was in 2019."

While other Muslims celebrated Eid al-Fitr on Wednesday, pilgrims from all around the world traveled to Arfa on Tuesday.
