The general hospital in Gwoza town is in poor shape and lacks electricity, which has alarmed Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum.

Zulum, who was visiting Gwoza for a day of business, stayed the night in the town that serves as the administrative center for the southern Borno region's Gwoza Local Government Area.

"It is intolerable that a vital medical facility like this Gwoza General Hospital be left without necessities like electricity. Due to this circumstance, our committed healthcare workers' efforts are hindered and patient care is compromised.

"We are here to find solutions, not to trade accusations. Nobody informed me of the horrendous conditions at this location.

"I won't defend either the local government authority or myself. We have all fallen short of the task at hand. However, I want to reassure you (the patients and the rest of the population) that we will correct this and improve the working atmosphere here, insha'Allah.

Governor Zulum ordered the immediate start of rehabilitation work, which will involve power restoration at the hospital, as one of the steps he took to improve the situation he saw.

Governor Zulum, meanwhile, was impressed with the medical professionals who, despite the General Hospital's dire circumstances, were on the scene to deliver services.

Zulum announced rewards for everyone on staff for their commitment in the face of difficulties.
