Plateau Killings: Over 300 Dead, 6000 Displaced In 2 Months – Group
Following the continued atrocities in, the Gideon and Funmi Para Mallam Peace Foundation has highlighted concern about the situation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
Following the continuing killings in Plateau State, the Gideon and Funmi Para Mallam Peace Foundation has expressed concern over the situation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
While more than 300 individuals have died since April, according to a statement from Reverend Gideon Para-Mallam, President and CEO of the organization, at least 6,603 homes have been impacted.
The foundation stated that "there are currently Eighteen Thousand Seven Hundred and Fifty-One (18,751) Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), who are now housed in Fourteen Camps," in a statement encouraging all parties to work toward peace.
The Local Church Councils (LCCs) of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) are in charge of hosting the fourteen camps. An analysis of the IDPs reveals: 6,066 children between the ages of 0 and 5 who are orphans, 2,081 widows. There are 1,057 elderly individuals, 828 youths, and 8 orphans who are adults.
"At this time, these devastating attacks are affecting a total of 6,603 families. Since April, there have been over 300 fatalities on the Plateau. As of Saturday, July 8, 2023, more than 200 of these lives had been lost as a result of persistent violent attacks in Mangu LGA.
The current crop of fatalities in the Mangu LGA needs to be handled with the utmost urgency.
Focusing on false accounts of the violence is not only false but also unhelpful and blatantly political correct and hypocritical, according to the statement, which called for a coordinated effort to end the crisis. "The Federal Government, Plateau State and indeed all States in Nigeria need to work together with unity of purpose, across political party lines to find peace or all the troubled hotspots in the entire country," it said. The foundation claimed that the story of retaliation assaults is not only oversimplified but also conceals the real problems. As a result, the foundation added, the unjust killings have continued for far too long, not just in Mangu LGA but also in other hotspots in the Middle Belt Areas in particular.
