Is it really poisonous?
A video that recently went viral online depicts how people are killed when there is a suspicion that food or drink has been poisoned.
Is this tale accurate?
The manager of a veterinary hospital in Nyanya, Abuja and a leading veterinarian, Dr Zainab Abubakar, received this query from the Hausa section of the BBC.
No research, according to her, has established that it is poisonous.
"It's untrue. Unlike snakes that carry poison, the snake does not carry deadly poison in its mouth or body.
The midge, however, has bacteria from the water in her body, according to the doctor.
