Mali has ignored the sanctions imposed by the United States on its officials
Choguel Kokalla Maiga, the prime minister of Mali, called the penalties on the country's defense minister, air force chief, and his deputy a "distraction" and vowed to support the members of the military government wholeheartedly.
"The punishment meted out to our senior officers serves no purpose other than to distract Mali's populace. Nothing will deter us from our mission to reconstruct Mali, Mr. Maiga declared in a tweet.
As punishment for "supporting" the growth of Russia's Wagner operations in Mali, the US has placed sanctions on the three men.
In their struggle against terrorists, Wagner's forces are accused of perpetrating severe crimes alongside the Malian army, where the United States claims the number of civilian fatalities has more than tripled since their deployment at the end of 2021.
