Ghana has abolished the death penalty
The death penalty was abolished in Ghana after the parliament decided to change the Criminal Code in 2022. It comes after numerous requests for the law's repeal from human rights organizations.
Francis-Xavier With the backing of a UK organization that is in favor of abolishing the death sentence (Death sentence Project), Kojo Sosu, a lawyer who is enthusiastic about defending human rights, submitted the bill to the parliament to amend it.
"Prisoners on death row awaken believing that today is their last day on earth," he remarked. The removal of the death penalty will demonstrate that as a nation we are committed to not being harsh or causing instability since these people are like the walking dead and have ceased acting like people.
There are 170 males and 6 women who are now serving death sentences; these sentences will be replaced with life in prison.

The UK says it disagrees with Ghana on this matter and opposes the death sentence in all circumstances.
