More than 40 countries have applied to become BRICS members

According to South Africa, more than 40 nations have now submitted applications to join the BRICS bloc of nations, which also includes South Africa, Brazil, Russia, India, and China.

Sherpa Anil Sooklal, the ambassador of South Africa to the organization, reported that 22 additional nations have expressed interest in joining in addition to the 22 that have already submitted formal applications.

According to Sooklal, among these nations are Saudi Arabia and Iran, both of which have made requests, as well as Argentina, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Bahrain, Indonesia, Congo, Gabon, Kazakhstan, and Comoros, all of which have expressed interest.

After China's tenure as group leader expired on December 31 of last year, South Africa is now in charge of the organization.

The group anticipates holding its conference in Johannesburg, South Africa, from August 22 to August 24.
