The court was asked to confiscate $129 million from the former Governor of Delta State

James Ibori, a former governor of Delta State in Nigeria who was convicted of money laundering in London, has been ordered to forfeit more than 100 million pounds, or 129 million dollars, according to prosecutors in the UK.

Ibori was extradited from Dubai to London in 2011 to appear in court, where he was found guilty of offences such as stealing the Niger Delta region's wealth.

Ibori admitted admission to a 10-count charge of trust fraud and money laundering in 2012, and the court sentenced him to 13 years in jail as a result.

These enormous quantities of money, which belonged to the former governor, are likely to be seized by the court following more than ten years of litigation.

The order to receive the property was reportedly given by Judge David Tomlison of the Southwark Crown Court; both parties' solicitors have reportedly already received the document, which has not yet been made public.

Both parties made requests to alter the judgement at the court session today, Thursday, and it is anticipated that Judge Tomlison will study today through tomorrow, Friday, in order to present the final ruling.

Ibori's assets total 101 and a half million pounds, according to top prosecutor Jonathan Kinnear, and if he does not submit them, he might face a 5- to 10-year prison sentence.

Ibori served half of his time in prison before returning to Nigeria in 2017. He was not present for today's court hearing.

According to the Reuters news agency, Ibori informed him that he would be appealing this judgement.
